It is a state of well-being in which every individual can function at their best. Mental health problems can be caused by genetic, physical, or psychological factors.

It is not just about having a good mood. It also includes thinking clearly, managing your emotions well, and making healthy decisions.

Types of Mental Disorder

Mental disorders are a broad term that refers to a psychological or behavioral pattern that causes significant distress and impairment in social, school, or work settings.

In the United States, mental disorders are classified into three groups:

1)- Mental Disorders

Mental health disorders are often characterized by difficulties with thinking, feeling, and behaving. Mental illnesses include depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, eating disorder, etc.

2)- Behavioral Disorders

Behavioral disorders include attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and oppositional defiant disorder.

3)- Substance Use disorders

Substance use disorders are commonly referred to as addiction.

Clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, and social workers often diagnose mental disorders. In addition, they often use specialized tests to identify behavior patterns to diagnose a mental condition.

Mental health professionals consider that the diagnosis may not be fully accurate or helpful for some individuals.

The DSM-5 is the most recent edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders published by the American Psychiatric Association (APA) and is used to diagnose mental health disorders.

DSM-5 defines a mental disorder as a clinically significant behavioral or psychological syndrome or pattern. It occurs in an individual and is associated with present distress ( e.g., pain, loss of pleasure) or disability (i.e., impairment in one or more important areas of functioning). It is not simply an exacerbation of a preexisting condition.

DSM-5 distinguishes between mental disorders that occur suddenly and gradually develop over time and mental disorders with organic causes (typically diagnosed).

1)- Physical Activity

You may limit added sugar in your food, saturated fat found in red meat and dairy, and sodium in processed food.

3)- Quality Sleep

Sleep is one of the most important aspects of our life. It’s how we recharge our brains and bodies, maintain a healthy weight, and care for our mental health.

4)- Meditation

Meditation is a practice that has been around for thousands of years. It’s a way to maintain mental and physical well-being.

The benefits of meditation are vast. It can help with anxiety, depression, insomnia, and stress relief. Plus, it’s a good way to stay in shape for mental wellness.

5)- Healthy Relationships

Relationships are the cornerstone of human life, but they can also be difficult to maintain. The relationship between the two is so important that people often sacrifice their health for their partner’s.

Mental Health System in the USA

The United States has a mental health system that is different from other countries. For example, in some countries, a person can be committed to a mental institution by a judge or a psychiatrist if they are deemed unfit to care for themselves.

There is no such system in the United States, and people are not involuntarily committed. Instead, they are usually sent to treatment centers or hospitals by their family members or friends.

The U.S. Mental Health System is unlike other countries because it does not have an involuntary commitment system. As a result, people needing help are seen as individuals’ responsibility rather than their government’s.
